How to do these 3 Easy Poses

Newborn Baby Photography Tips: 3 Easy poses.

  1. Get that Awesome Birds eye-view.

I found that the best way to shoot this photo is to place my two feet behind the baby’s head and lean forwards towards the middle of the baby’s body.

You will need to keep the camera absolutely straight.  If it’s an angle it will distort the baby.

Wrap the baby loosely and make sure to show the hands.

Camera Tips:

  • Lens 50 mm
  • F-stop: F8
  • Shutter: 60 (1/60) unless you are working with a strobe, then it can be slower
  • ISO: 200 maximum 400
  • Natural light: Very near a very large window
  • Be attentive not to create any shadows

2.  Nothing like that cute little sleepy face!

For this pose you will need some important props.  You can use a posing prop or add towels under the baby’s head to raise the baby’s body a little bit.  A fluffy blanket or soft textured cloth will be a great background.  When photographing babies always think of the word soft.  Everything that touches the baby needs to be very soft!  Keep that blanket wrinkle-free.

Camera Tips:

  • Lens 50 mm
  • F-stop: F8
  • Shutter: 60 (1/60) unless you are working with a strobe, then it can be slower
  • ISO: 200 maximum 400
  • Natural light + strobe
  • Reflector to bright the face

3   Baby Cocoon: Irresistible!

This is a great pose for those of you who are just beginning.  Wrapping babies can be a challenge and this is a soft and easy wrap that provides for the cocoon-look.  So this will be all about the props.  A prop under the blanket to lift the baby a bit. A really soft wrap to create the cocoon and if you want to add the cap go ahead or leave it out.  It will be beautiful both ways.  In fact I like this one because you can get 2 different photos without changing much.  With the  hat and without.

Camera Tips:

  • Lens 50 mm
  • F-stop: F8
  • Shutter: 60 (1/60) unless you are working with a strobe, then it can be slower
  • ISO: 200 maximum 400
  • Natural light + strobe
